I Know Someone Who Can Relate.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin.

Hebrews 4:15

With a sniff, she tugged a tissue, turned a weary gaze my way. “You know what I mean?”

There are times I can relate to another’s difficulty on a deep and personal level.

I truly know the road they walk, the profuse wilderness through which they trudge, and the uber difficult struggle it is to grasp the outstretched hand of God in the storm when the lining of my stomach burns with uncertainty.

When God presents a treasured opportunity to relate to another, I delight in offering a hearty, “Yes, I do know.”

I can relate. Really. Truly.

Got precarious financial issues? I can relate.

Got a particular someone in your life who refuses to forgive? I can relate (with a nod)

Got parental disappointment measuring the breadth and depth of the Grand Canyon? Man, can I relate.

Got a diagnosis that leaves you shackled in fear? Or a crumbling marriage? I…um…can’t relate.

And that’s okay.

Your difficulty may not be my difficulty. He entrusts me and you with sufferings unique to how He made us.

Remove the dross from the silver, and out comes material for the silversmith.

Proverbs 25:4

And when you’ve got probs that I can’t relate to I take heart in two things:

1) God has prepared others who can

2) God relates to –and walks intimately with the sufferer through– all of it

All. Of. It.

During His 33 years here on earth, Jesus suffered all that has ever been suffered by humankind. Almighty God still suffers. His Spirit grieves with any violation of His law. Particularly when there’s no repentance.

But this is where Jesus’ sufferings have redemptive power.

But we have one Who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin.

When I haven’t experienced your particular difficulty, such as being unable to find a vet to treat a parrot that’s throwing up (this is a thing), and you can’t relate to any of my hardships, there’s always, always Jesus.

Are you struggling with something? Give me a shout. Maybe I can help. Unless you’re the one with the sick parrot…

But have no fear, I know Someone who can relate and Who redeems the impossible.

Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence,

so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16

You struggling with something? Maybe I can help. If not, I know Someone who can relate
