My First Novel…

October 5th, 2015. Just another Monday. Not a good one by my estimation because I’d been lamenting, unknowingly listening to the taunts of the enemy…

“You are laboring over this manuscript, but no one wants it. Why bother?”

It was on that very same day when I received a routine (though so not routine) email from Paula Mowery, an editor of Prism Book Group (

“I am thrilled to offer you a contract for Call To Love.

I collapsed onto the carpet of my bedroom, pinched myself while praising the Lord (I’m multi-talented like that), then called my husband to share the news. It’d been months of sending proposals to various agents and editors before I received an offer for my story. So super excited, humbled. And frightened. Ah! Now what??

I reviewed the contract, discussed  a few things with the owner of Prism, and in the company of three of my children, I signed the revised contract and mailed that thing January 7th, 2016.

The story questions?

When two crisis-driven careers collide, who will be the first to answer the call to love?

Can trust and forgiveness destroy the wall that guards a wounded heart?

The inspiration? While exiled on the isle of Patmos, the Lord gave John what I consider a breathtaking vision.

“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse whose Rider is called Faithful and True.” Revelation 19:11

Tracy Cassidy, a self-reliant ER nurse, finds herself pregnant and unmarried. When the father of her baby offers to marry her she refuses and, instead, pursues a dream job in another city. How hard could it be to do life alone? It’ll mean leaving her friends and family. And a widowed mother to manage their faltering woman’s ministry that’s in great need of funding.

Tom DeLaney, a hyper-vigilant cop and new hire from Texas, is wearied by years of failed rescue attempts to save his marriage to Deborah. So much for thinking she’d be nothing like Mom. He hadn’t expected to fall for Tracy while she pays him to paint her house. But when Tom’s adolescent son Stephen is diagnosed with an incurable disease, Tom may have to put career advancement on hold to care for him. And maybe even risk loving another woman with keep-out issues.

Fears related to the death of Tracy’s cop father and Tom’s inability to forgive the past threaten to sabotage any chance at love. But following Tracy’s premature birth and Tom’s near-fatal shooting, they wonder if they can conquer their fear of answering God’s call to love again. No matter the cost.
