We will wrestle our crowns from the giants we conquer.
Streams in the Desert.
My life hasn’t been characterized by a lot of wrestling or crowning achievements. Yes, I worked hard to complete my college degree, searched for that first job, and muscled through nearly three years to earn a master’s degree.
I’ve worked at my marriage, fighting the giant of selfishness, and learned the necessity of respecting my man.
Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself,
and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:22
I’m still very much in the thick of parenting semi-adult kids whose needs are far more complex than what a plate of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and glass of milk will fix.
And I race the clock to complete daily writing goals and fulfill responsibilities that come with being an inspirational author.
But to realize there are crowns that belong to me for having wrestled successfully against giants? That’s truly remarkable.
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Ephesians 2:1-2 (NIV)
These giants swing punches and lie and deceive and kill and destroy.
And they steal my crowns, those Jesus paid for with His life…
Joy. Hope. Peace. Salvation. Victory over sin and death, to name a few.
Giant wrestling is no small thing.

I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Philippians 3:12
Some days the only thing I have strength to conquer is a bag of Peanut M&Ms which, for me, requires little energy expenditure.
If I’m not careful, I’ll find myself at risk of falling into a pit of hopelessness where I’ll only keep company with those who are no longer willing to wrestle their crowns from the giants who’ve stolen them.
It only takes one glance at the cross to remember those are my crowns, bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus.
Duly reminded of that, I choose to conquer giants and wrestle my crowns out of their hands.
What giants have your crowns? How hard are you willing to wrestle for them?
