I Pray You Catch What I Have.

All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing. Colossians 1:6 (NIV)

Just the phrase ‘all over the world’ and my mind goes right to the continued spread of COVID-19 and uprisings and divisions on multiple levels throughout the world.

There’s growth all right. It’s just not the growth I’d like to see.

Epaphras reported that the gospel was growing and spreading and bearing fruit among the people since the day they heard of the good news of Jesus Christ. (vs 6-7)

I’m spreading things too. We all are. But is it producing good fruit that will last?

Does it further the kingdom of God or my own agenda to remain comfy and free from contracting anything you might be carrying?

Having thoroughly washed my hands multiple times today (I’ve lost count) and slipped on my suffocating mask to protect others as I make another Walmart run to replenish a dwindling stash of Peanut M&Ms, I doubt anyone caught anything untoward I may be carrying unaware. But did my interaction on social media or the phone or Zoom meetings further the spread of the Gospel or add fuel to the fire of division incinerating relationships?

Because really, I want you to catch what I have. It’s the transforming message of the Gospel that assures me an eternal home, free from need for masks. Ever.

And if you catch what I have I’d like to see it grow and produce fruit that will last.

If in our interactions you detect evidence of the hope I have inside me, I pray it communicates the reason for my choice to be patient and cooperate with government authorities in these unprecedented times.

So, yeah. I’ve got something contagious. His name is Jesus. And I’d really love it if you caught what I have.

Let’s give the world an opportunity to catch what we have, to see the smile in our eyes over the fabric of our masks that speaks of the abundant and perfect and unfailing love of Jesus.

What might others be catching from you?
