My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:2 (NIV)
Recently I posted a picture on social media to reveal the cover of my upcoming inspirational romance novel, You Are the Reason.
When I scrolled through to read responses, I noticed this repetitive comment ...
I can't wait to read it!
Made my heart swell with gratitude.
My goal in writing fiction is for the reader to smile, enjoy a little romantic tension, and ponder truth through the characters' journey.
I want the reader's heart and mind to be inclined toward the Lord—His word, presence, and active involvement in their life.
The repetitive phrase I can't wait to read it! made me wonder about my response to the Bible, the greatest romance ever written.
In Genesis, God opens the book with a reveal like no other. Welcome to Paradise, Adam and Eve. What do you think?
The Gospels give us a Hero who sacrifices His life in exchange for the Church He loves.
In Revelation, He returns in triumph for His Bride to save the day and those who place their faith in Jesus are promised a happily ever after in eternity with the Father.
It makes you want to get your hands on this book with an 'I can't wait to read it' fervor.
But do I approach the reading of the Bible with the enthusiasm that my eager readers have expressed?
Most of the time, yes! Some days ... not so much.
Too often, I let difficulties become unsurmountable because I've forgotten God's promise to bear the weight of my concerns. I become myopic, the mountain of anger, disappointment, or fear growing unsurmountable.
Throughout the labor of creating each of my novels, I released occasional sighs of frustration, while the spirit of Almighty God is breathed over every word of scripture.
My pride has me perpetually longing to see an error-free book when the Bible is the only book without errors.
It's topped the NYT best seller list.
So, what if we prayed ...
Lord, your word is without error. It fortifies our faith and reassures us in the uncertainties of life. I can’t wait to read it!
May we sit with the Author and revel in the promises detailed in His book. Because being a best seller doesn't mean much to the author if the buyer doesn't read the book.
And may we find the account of Jesus's atonement for our sins a good reason to give thanks.
Have a great Thanksgiving week!

Your message really speaks to me today, Mary. I've recognized that my quiet time with God is becoming less as I flounder under the oppressive weight of various responsibilities. The "I Can't Wait to Read It"(in reference to God's Holy Word) phrase should be the first thing I focus on in the morning (my normal devotional time). But recently I've allowed other things to get in the way. I've been feeling the nudge, but your message is a stronger reminder. Thank you!
You always bring such inspiration and enthusiasm to your writing Ms. Mary. While I'm not much for reading romances, I can sure appreciate how your reference God's word as the greatest love story ever written. I too, most days, can't wait to read it again to find more treasures hidden among its words. I'm certain your books contain many treasures also ma'a m.
Mary, I loved your message today! As an avid reader, I often find myself saying “I can’t wait to read it” when a favorite author of mine comes out with a new book. God (and my husband) has challenged me to have the same approach toward the Bible, His book of books, a book that needs no sequel. Keep writing! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
